Elmsford, N.Y. (December 17, 2019) – Oliver “Ollie” Lazare passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on December 12.
A current Director Emeritus, he and his beloved wife of 76 years, Eleanor, touched many lives through the WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund and through the game of golf in the Westchester area. The two were responsible for growing the Club’s participation in the program; Ellie, specifically, for the MCC’s Women’s Golf Day, that to this day, annually contributes a significant gift to the program. The couple became affectionately known as “Mr. & Mrs. Metropolis.” Over Oliver’s five-decade involvement, the contributions to the local youth and to the game of golf is immeasurable.
Through the years, Ollie was a long-time board member and active with the WGA, the Westchester Seniors, the MGA, and his home club, Metropolis Country Club.
The Lazares were the recipients of the MGA’s esteemed Distinguished Service Award in 2000.
