On October 4th, the Country Club of Darien played host to the 6th Annual Christopher C. Hickey Invitational. Started in 2016 by WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund board member Greg Hickey, the CCH Invitational serves as a very special event paying tribute to his late twin brother Chris.
Thanks to a tremendous turnout, one of the larger outings in the six-year history of the event, the 6th Annual CCH Invitational grossed $150,000 for the CCH Caddie Fund. It is the highest total for a CCH event thus far.
On the golf side, despite a rainy day, the event went off without a hitch as 29 groups took to the course for the outing. A shamble format was played and even in tough conditions plenty of teams went low.
“They say that rain on a special day can mean good luck”, said Greg Hickey. “After having our most successful Fundraising Golf Event on Monday, yes a little bit of luck but really an amazing show of support and generosity from the Friends of the Fund. Another huge thank you to Johanna Gavin and her A-Team from the MGA/WGACSF for providing so much help with the Tournament. Thank you to the CSF Board and President for their ongoing support. Our ability to help deserving caddies and create a legacy for my twin isn’t possible without all these people.”
There were two competitions, a net and gross division. In the net competition, multiple teams tied for second with net scores of 55. However, the low total was an incredible net score of 53 from the team of Patrick Gately, Erin Foley, Jeff Fittipaldi and Brad Berk.
In the gross competition, teams once again showed their golfing prowess with scores in the low-60’s. The winning score of 62 was highlighted by a few big names, including the creator of the event. Greg Hickey, Jeff Blanchard, Rob Pfundstein and author Tom Coyne, who was at the event signing copies of his new book, took home first.
The total for the CCH auction alone totaled a whopping $49,171. Great items including Yankees tickets, Titleist gear and plenty of rounds of golf highlighted the tremendous auction.
Since its inception, the CCH Scholarship has been awarded to 16 deserving caddies. This year, there were five recipients of the award: Colin Ratner of Woodway, Colin Williams of Shorehaven, Nicholas Ward of Darien, Rodney Louis of Woodway and Rogger Campos of Darien.
The CCH Invitational once again proved to be an incredible event thanks to the support of so many who golfed, donated, and volunteered for the day. Hosted annually at the Country Club of Darien, the focus is now on the 7th annual CCH Invitational and another incredible event for the 2022 calendar year.
